To review basic concepts of parenteral nutrition (PN) in infants, children and adolescents in different phases of disease.
To review parenteral feeding requirements, including macronutrients and micronutrients;
To be able to initiate EN and to wean the patient from continuous tube feeding;
To review possible complications of paediatric PN as well as strategies for their prevention and management;
To discuss principles and specificities of EN in children;
To describe nutrient composition of various EN formula;
To discuss issues of enteral versus parenteral nutrition;
To discuss relation of under- and overfeeding in infancy and childhood in relation with chronic diseases in adulthood.
