Detailed Guide for Online and Live Training

To earn credits from online activities, you must read the module content, complete the self-assessment test, answer the clinical case questions, and pass the grading quizzes for each module in the topic. One credit is awarded for each module after successfully passing the grading quiz.

1. How to Earn Credits Online with Grading Quizzes

1. Select the Grading Quiz: Click on the corresponding grading quiz from the topic outline page. You are allowed two attempts per quiz, and the highest score will be recorded in your portfolio.
2. Attempt the Quiz: Click on "Attempt quiz now" to start answering the questions. Submit each answer to check if it is correct.
3. Review Your Attempt: After completing your first attempt, you can save it without submitting, submit it, or finalise it. Once finalised, you will see a review of your scores. Note that you cannot change your answers after finalizing.
4. Re-attempt if needed: Click on "Re-attempt quiz" if you wish to improve your score.
5. Achieve the Required Score: You must score at least 80% to earn 1 credit per grading quiz.
6. If the selected module meets your expectations, you are invited to join the Live Course on that topic

2. How to Learn at a Live Course and Earn Credits

2.1 Live Course Structure:

Each topic includes 4 modules delivered in a 4-hour format by recognized experts in clinical nutrition.

Each Live course consists of three components: Lectures, Case discussions, and an Assessment test.

You must score at least 80% to receive 4 CME credits. If your score is less, you will receive a certificate of attendance. After successfully passing the Live course, 4 CME credits will be uploaded to your portfolio within one month.

2.3 Live Course Requirements:

The Live course is a compulsory component of your training in the LLL program.
The timetable of Live Courses is available on the LLL and ESPEN websites. Find it here
Before attending a Live course, you must register on the LLL website and study all modules included in the Live course from the corresponding online course.

2.4 Live Course Credits:

To earn credits from Live course you must complete the test. You must score at least 80% to receive 4 CME credits. If your score is less, you will receive a certificate of attendance. After successfully passing the Live course, 4 CME credits will be uploaded to your portfolio within one month.

2.5 Live Course Timetable

ESPEN organizes live courses on various topics during the annual ESPEN congress. You can select up to 7 Live courses from 20 LLL Live courses during the annual ESPEN Congress.

PEN societies also organize specific topics in collaboration with ESPEN.

3. How to Learn at a Webinar and Earn Credits

Webinars have the same structure as Live courses, consisting of Lectures, Case discussions, and a Test (Safe Exam Quiz).
To enroll in a webinar, participants must log in to the LLL program with their ESPEN or LLL username and password.
Enrollment in a webinar is handled by contacting the course director or contact person for the webinar participants are interested in.

Participants receive information, access links, and passwords for the Safe Test from the course director.
The LLL Webinars offer the same number of credits as Live LLL courses.

The test is organized in the Safe Exam Browser (SEB), which must be downloaded before the Webinar.
Webinar Participation Requirements:
Attend all webinar lectures.
Pass the Test/Quiz with more than 23 points.
The Quiz can be attempted only once under video surveillance provided by videoconference solutions.
To start the quiz in SafeExamBrowser, download the SafeExamBrowser and special config file from the Quiz page. The SEB Config file can be opened with a special password provided by the LLL Teacher just before the quiz starts.
The LLL Webinars offer the same number of credits as Live LLL courses.

4. Rules for Credit Accumulation

4.1 Rules for Credit Accumulation for Acquisition of Certificates

The competencies and skills acquired through the LLL programme in Nutrition are assessed and certified. The ESPEN LLL programme in Clinical Nutrition is accredited by the "Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes" (UEMS), recognized for CME in most countries.

Certification Levels:

• A certificate for 4 CME credits is awarded for each specific topic at a live course and/or webinar after successful completion.
• A certificate for 4 credits from online activities for one topic is awarded after completing the self-assessment test for each module and passing the corresponding grading quizzes.

Note: Some topics provide fewer credits depending on the number of included modules. Please check the module catalogue.

Certificates are provided at live courses. You can earn the maximum credits for each topic by successfully passing grading quiz for each module, and then participating in the live course.

Rules for Credit Accumulation for ESPEN Diploma

Participants in the LLL programme who successfully complete their training and meet the respective requirements are awarded the ESPEN Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. Two types of ESPEN Diplomas are issued:

1. ESPEN Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism: Awarded to health professionals (Masters/Bachelors) who collect 150 credits from live courses, online self-training, and the final exam.
2. EUROPEAN ESPEN Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism: Awarded to physicians, with credits granted by the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS) and recognized for Continuing Medical Education in most countries. This diploma requires the collection of 150 credits: 120 credits from online and live courses and/or webinars, and 30 credits from the final exam.

Credit Verification:

• Credits are verified from your individual portfolio or with certificates issued for each live course undertaken.

Credit Requirements for ESPEN Diploma:

• You must accumulate 120 credits to sit the final exam, which provides the remaining 30 credits.
  • 64 credits from online courses
  • 56 credits from live courses and/or webinars
  • 30 credits from the successful completion of the final exam
