1. Invitation to the ESPEN LLL Final Examination

ESPEN European Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism

Dear ESPEN LLL Participants,

We are pleased to announce that the next Final Examination for the ESPEN European Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism will take place during the 48th ESPEN Congress on 07 September 2026 in Berlin, Germany.

The ESPEN Life-Long Learning (LLL) Programme has grown into one of the most impactful educational initiatives in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. With over 75,000 registered users and more than 105,000 participants in live courses over the past 20 years, the programme continues to set the standard in Continuing Medical Education.

The first ESPEN Diplomas were awarded in 2010 in Nice. We invite you to join the distinguished community of ESPEN Diploma holders. Take the next step in your professional journey-earn your ESPEN Diploma in Berlin!

2. About the ESPEN Diploma

The ESPEN Diploma certifies the successful accumulation of 150 CME credits through the LLL Programme and recognizes advanced knowledge and competencies in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. While not a formal academic degree, the Diploma is a prestigious endorsement by ESPEN and may support your professional development depending on your employer's recognition.

3. Eligibility Criteria for the Final Exam

To qualify for the Final Exam, candidates must accumulate a total of 120 CME credits prior to applying:

Credit Requirements

  • 56 credits from 14 live courses or webinars
  • 64 credits from online courses

Credits must be earned within the past 10 years.
All credits will be verified via certificates and your LLL online profile

Mandatory Topics (Live/Webinar Courses)
You must complete the following six topics:

  • Nutritional Assessment and Techniques (Topic 3)
  • Approach to Oral and Enteral Nutrition in Adults (Topic 8)
  • Approach to Parenteral Nutrition (Topic 9)
  • Nutritional Support in the Perioperative Period (Topic 17)
  • Nutritional Support in ICU Patients (Topic 18)
  • Nutritional Support in Cancer (Topic 26)

If you have completed more than 16 topics, you may select the 16 topics on which you wish to be examined. Please choose these topics from the Final Exam Module Catalog provided via the link above and include your selection in your application.

4. Application Process

To apply for the Final Exam:

  1. Download the application here
  2. Write a letter of intent
  3. Send both documents to: Prof. Regina Komsa-Penkova rkomsa@gmail.com and Dr. Galya Georgieva galiag_77@abv.bg
  4. Include a summary of your accumulated credits

Note: Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Repeating the same topic in a Live course will not count toward the 14-topic requirement, even if credits are awarded for both sessions.
All credits will be verified via certificates and your LLL online profile.

The deadline for the Final Exam Application is 15 June 2026.

Exceptions
Candidates missing up to 2 live courses may still apply, provided those courses are completed before the exam date (e.g., during the ESPEN Congress).

5. Final Exam Format

  • 100 multiple-choice questions
  • 3-hour duration (no breaks)
  • 80% correct answers required to pass
  • Electronic devices are strictly prohibited

Each candidate will receive a personalized exam based on the topics completed and registered in their LLL profile.

6. Fees and Certification

  • Exam Fee: €200
    (Covers administrative costs and diploma printing)
  • Diploma Delivery:
    • The Diploma and the Diploma Supplement will be awarded upon successful completion of the Final Exam
    • Printed copies available upon request (additional shipping fees apply)

7. Important Reminders

  • Check your credits on the LLL Web Portal
  • If any credits are missing, send supporting documents for verification
